KUALA LUMPUR: The free-and-easy days of illegal downloading of music and movies may soon be over. A proposed new law will enable Internet Service Providers (ISP) to suspend or terminate the Internet accounts of P2P (peer-to-peer) users.

This new law called the ISP Liability act, will be tabled in Parliament next month, according to Recording Industry Association of Malaysia (RIM) chairman Norman Halim.

RIM has been lobbying the Government for an ISP Liability act for the past 5 years as illegal online downloads have been cannibalising the legitimate sales of music, worldwide.

“The act makes the ISPs responsible for curbing online piracy. The ISPs will be fined if they don’t take action against illegal downloaders. The ISPs have the technology to track P2P users,” said Norman.

However, he said that the fine amount had yet to be determined.

ISPs will send two warning letters to illegal downloaders. Should the downloaders still persist, the Internet access will be suspended or even terminated.

“Other countries that have such an act have seen their respective music industries recover. One good example would be South Korea,” he said. "

Taken from Star Paper , our government is finding a new way to fight what so called "piracy", this is just plain foolishness at practice here , so you thought piracy will be reduce because of u stop people from torrenting ? Sadly to say that , ya it will for awhile, then people will just find a new way to do the pirating . Don't blind yourself with the fact of what other people say , the problem of piracy has been there for years, stopping us from torrenting is not going to halt this. Even before the time of torrenting become common, there are piracy, when there are still cassettes and VCR s, it obtain from other sources rather downloading it from internet, even if you do manage to stop us from torrenting, we consumer will just switch to another ways to obtain it. Open your eyes, my beloved government, its not moral, that we don't buy original movie and song, don't just wear your sleek suit and sit at your office and say we need people to buy original, use original, the problem start from the so-called ORIGINAL stuff, walk to the shop and see what they did !

Don't even get me started on those shop, there is one shop in PM shopping mall (Penang people will know which am i talking about), this shop start as a small shop that sell pirated VCD /DVD then they decided they had earn enough, so they switch to selling original disc. Ya, may be on first look it is as if they are selling original, on second glance, you will find that so called original , just another piece of piracy they downloaded from the internet a.k.a torrent it , then burn it to DVD , slap a original sticker on it and waaalaaa , original DVD straight from the net, cost? Do you really want to know? Profit? Hell, i bet the boss is laughing so hard that they can't even stop but do you care no.... as long as there are taxes put into your hand then you are satisfy and justify, the quality? who cares? Take anime original DVD for example, when there are already ready make subtitles for them , they still can copy it wrongly. The package design? Doujinshi work, stealing other people work and stick it on your own profit is still consider piracy you know. Do they care? no yet again...why ? As long as there are taxes paid, who cares? This is just shameless, shameless act of our Malaysian so called protect the ORIGINAL. How do you protect it when you can't even differentiate what is or what not? You know what will happend if i buy one of these and send it to Japan , or i just post it on a Japan forum? Shame on you and over your Protect Original Act ...

Mr Norman Halim, you say by preventing torrenting can save your Music Industries , when i mean your, ya i mean those Malays one, this statement only works when there are a music industries to save at all, look at the TVs, flip through the channel, seen any Malay artist song playing ? any commercial ? Got of course, i can count it using my fingers, even the government channel TV2 don't do any of that too, they just keep repeating our beloved Dato P Ramlee, admit it man , your music industries died with him, if you want to save your industries, start filtering the capabilities of your singers.

In conclusion, do what you might, we still wont be buying any original, then lets all the industries died altogether, only by then you will see your mistakes, i will buy it when i think it worth it, as for Malaysian music industries? I wont give you a penny, you can go f**k yourself~!!!
